About the Artist
Yang Feng is a contemporary abstract painter whose work explores a refined synthesis of Eastern ink traditions and Western modern painting. His practice reflects a long-term engagement with cultural dialogue, material experimentation, and the expressive potential of abstraction.
Working across expressive and abstract modes, Yang’s paintings are characterized by a dynamic balance between structure and spontaneity. Drawing from the textural depth of traditional Chinese ink and watercolor techniques, his works are further enriched through layered color, gesture, and mixed media approaches associated with Western oil painting. This fusion results in compositions that are both visually powerful and internally resonant.
Born in Tianjin, China in 1958, Yang Feng discovered his passion for painting at an early age. He studied at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in China, where he developed a strong foundation in both traditional Chinese painting and Western oil painting while engaging with the language of modern Western art history. He later spent a decade in Japan, studying at Kobe University, a period during which his artistic vision gradually evolved into a distinctive personal style shaped by cross-cultural experience.
In 2001, Yang Feng relocated to the United States as an artist of extraordinary ability. His work has since been exhibited internationally, with numerous solo exhibitions held in China, Japan, and the United States. In 2016, he was awarded the Golden Key to the City of Hollywood in recognition of his artistic contributions. His works are collected by private collectors and institutions, and he is a member of the Pasadena Society of Artists and the Chinese Painting & Calligraphy Society.
